Despite their name, Herkimer Diamonds aren’t actually diamonds. They are exceptionally clear, naturally double-terminated quartz crystals named for Herkimer County, New York, where these distinctive crystals are famously found.

Their natural double termination means they grow with points at both ends rather than remaining attached to a host rock at one end—a formation that has made Herkimers especially recognizable and sought after.
